Tomorrow, in a showdown over Big East supremacy, the Georgetown Hoyas host the sixth ranked (AP) Villanova Wildcats. Villanova, 15-2 overall, travels to DC with a seven game winning streak and a perfect 5-0 record in conference play. The Hoyas, 11-6 overall, trail the Wildcats by one game in the Big East. Georgetown's only Big East loss was a 79-66 loss to Creighton on the road.

This past Wednesday, led by senior guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera's career high 33 points, the Hoyas delivered a 93-73 thrashing of St. John's.  The road win was the Hoyas' fifth win in six games. Smith-River's 33 points was the highest point total this season for any player in the Big East.

Georgetown entered Big East play with five losses, including two close ones against then number three ranked Maryland and then number five ranked Duke. The Hoyas have since gained steam and confidence and a win against top ten ranked Villanova would be huge for their NCAA tournament resume.

Smith-Rivera, who leads the Hoyas in both points (15.3 PPG) and assists (4.5 APG), has played exceptionally well in Big East games. He's averaged 19.4 PPG in conference play. The Hoyas will need another big game from Smith-Rivera to upset Villanova, led by junior guard Josh Hart (Sidwell Friends). Hart leads the Wildcats in scoring at 15.5 PPG.

The Hoyas' first signature win of the season was an upset win at home against former Big East foe and then number 14 ranked Syracuse in early December. A win for Georgetown on Saturday against Villanova means not only the top spot in the Big East conference but another signature win for a team that might be on the bubble for the NCAA tournament.
