DMV Elite 80 Recap

Today, a collection of the metro area's rising prep stars convened at Hayfield High School to participate in DMV Elite Showcases' annual Elite 80 event. With the high school season rapidly approaching, it offered onlookers an opportunity to watch a concentration of local talent under one roof before players begin their prep campaigns.

Below is a list of the standouts we noticed during today's event.

Jalen Rucker | Gilman H.S. 2019 (MD) |  The 5'9 floor general operates with an effective change of pace and finishes well with both hands. Rucker displayed his range connecting on 5-5 from long distance in a fierce back and forth battle against O'Connell point guard Brayon Freeman. He was also one of the more efficient players at the event, knocking down over 70% of his shots.

Brayon Freeman | Bishop O'Connell H.S. 2021 (MD) | Freeman's full offensive arsenal was on display throughout the showcase finishing consistently in the lane and knocking down shots from all over the floor. He held his own against a field of upperclassmen and stood out as one of the top sophomores at the event. He also led all players in scoring at 18 points per game.

Joel Kabimba | Middleburg H.S. 2019 (VA)| Kabimba's versatility turned heads on Saturday. At 6'8, he has the ability to beat players his size off the dribble and shoot over smaller defenders. His breakout game came against Team Gray where he dropped 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in just 18 minutes against formidable opponent, Matt Rogers.

Ryan Conway | Dulaney H.S. 2021 (MD) |  Conway's penetration skills kept defenders off balance throughout the event. His potential became apparent against Team Navy when he scored on a number of drives using his crafty ball handling ability to create space and finish in the lane.

Tymu Chenery | Episcopal HS 2020 (VA) | Chenery is an athletic wing who flourishes slashing to the rim. He dropped 13 points and picked up 4 rebounds in the game of the event between Team Navy. Chenery has the potential to have a breakout season for Episcopal.

Dimingus Stevens | Wilson 2020 (DC) | Steven shot the ball as well as anyone at the showcase. His dribble drive pull-ups made him a tough defensive assignment for opponents. His decision making and shot selection make him a player to keep an eye on the next two years.

Other notable players:

Wes Peterson (Bishop O'Connell 2021)

Chace Davis (St. Andrews Episcopal 2021)

Jahvon John (Virginia Academy 2020)
